Phase change material (PCM) has become one of the main research areas of battery thermal management because of its large latent heat and small volume change during its phase change. In this paper, the heat storage principle of PCM was introduced. The main phase change material paraffin and researches about enhancing the thermal conductivity of paraffin were reviewed. The applications of other cooling methods coupled with phase change materials in thermal management of power battery were summarized. Finally, the future application of the PCM in thermal management of battery was prospected.
