As a green and efficient solvent with low cost, simple preparation process and excellent designability, deep eutectic solvent (DES) has been widely used in biomass pretreatment in recent years. In this paper, the application of DES in pretreating biomass was reviewed. The key physicochemical properties of DES and its reaction mechanism in biomass pretreatment were discussed, the research direction and methods of design and recycling of DES in recent years were summarized, and the existing problems were also analyzed. Finally, based on the present research situation, the development trend of the DES technology was predicted and prospected. This paper may provide some theoretical support for the application of DES in efficient conversion of biomass.
