Study on the Pyrolysis Mechanism of Vanillin Based on EPR Detection Technology
By using vanillin as a lignin model compound, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) was applied to detect the intermediate products of its pyrolysis reaction, so as to demonstrate the mechanism and reaction path by determining the changes of intermediate products. Results showed that, for vanillin, the precursors of coking intermediates and a large part of the stable carbon free radicals were detected in situ, while the free radicals captured by cold trap-captured were mainly benzoyl radicals, methyl radicals, OH radicals, and H radicals. It was proved that the pyrolysis reaction of vanillin was a free radical reaction, and the reaction path of vanillin pyrolysis was also confirmed and proposed.
