Composite adsorbents of activated carbon-CaCl2 were prepared by carbonized and activated of fir crumbs, which had been impregnated in CaCl2 solution for 24 h, at high temperature. Effects of carbonization and activation temperatures on the adsorption performance of composite adsorbents were investigated in this paper, the carbonization and activation temperatures were 400oC, 500oC, 600oC and 700oC, respectively. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) image and element distribution image illustrated that the composite absorbents have smooth surface with well-developed pore structure and CaCl2 is well-distributed in the composite adsorbents. Ammonia adsorption experiments show that, during an adsorption time of 4 h, the adsorption capacity of composite adsorbents increase as the carbonization temperature rises. In the field of adsorption refrigeration, the most appropriate carbonization and activation temperature is 500oC and the adsorption capacity of composite adsorbent prepared at this temperature can be reached 0.488 g/g within 30 min.
