To obtain exoelectrogen that can adapt extreme condition of leachate, microbial fuel cells were initiated with leachate as substrate. The leachates were collected from municipal landfill refuses which located in Likeng and Xingfeng, Baiyun district, Guangzhou. After the output was stable for several cycles, the anode carbon cloth was separated for single colony cultivation and scanning electron microscopy analysis. The results revealed that MFCs with different leachate were successfully initiated. The MFCs with Likeng samples achieved a maximum output of 0.334, 0.331, 0.321 and 0.328 V, respectively. In the meanwhile, the MFCs with Xingfeng samples achieved a maximum output of 0.512, 0.54, 0.523 and 0.536 V, respectively. Based on the bacteria separated from carbon cloth biofilm, the anode phylogenetic tree was constructed. It was found that the acclimatized strains have a relative high abundance and difference. The SEM images illuminated that the microorganism was attached to the anode surface to form biofilm, which can be speculated that the electron transfer mechanism in leachate based MFC was directly contact with the electrode.
