Recent Advances in Lithium-Sulfur Batteries Electrolyte

Environment and energy are two core issues in the development of human society. It has been a main direction to develop high-performance secondary batteries to solve energy storage and realize environment-friendly transport. Lithium-sulfur batteries have much higher theoretical specific energy than traditional lithium-ion batteries. Furthermore, active material sulfur is natural abundant, cheap, easily accessible, and environmentally friendly, thus having a bright application prospect. Electrolyte is an important part of Li-S battery, and developing new functional electrolytes plays an important role in suppressing the shuttle effect of Li-S batteries and ensuring the safety of Li-S battery. In this paper, the recent advances in Li-S battery electrolyte were reviewed and discussed from aspects of lithium salts, solvents, electrolyte additives and solid or quasi-solid electrolyte. Finally, the future development trends of lithium sulfur electrolyte were proposed.
