CO2 replacement mining and carbon sink sequestration is an important pathway to reduce the cost of industrial hydrate extraction in the South China Sea, not only to ensure the energy supply required for the economic construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, but also to reduce the excessive carbon emissions in the Greater Bay Area. Compared with gaseous and liquid CO2, the replacement efficiency of injected CO2 emulsion is higher. In this paper, the application of CO2 emulsion in the replacement of methane hydrate, and the stability of emulsion were summarized. The advantages and difficulties of CO2 emulsion in the exploitation of hydrate in the South China Sea were discussed, and the next step of CO2 emulsion replacement in the exploitation of hydrate in the South China Sea was analyzed. This work may provide reference and suggestions for future gas hydrate mining and simultaneous carbon sequestration.
