Air turbines play a key role in energy conversion process of oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy converters. This paper summarizes the results of numerical simulation and physical model tests of turbines in OWC wave energy converters. The technical challenge, research directions in the future and development prospects of air turbines were analyzed. This study might help to systematically master the research history and direction of air turbines in OWC wave energy converters.
